Smoking Cessation Support Service for Mental Health Patients in Bradford

The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council is awarding a contract for smoking support services to be delivered within Community Mental Health Teams across Bradford District. This service will provide evidence-based smoking cessation and harm-reduction support to patients with long-term and severe mental health conditions, where smoking rates and related health risks are significantly higher than the general population. Services include behavioural support from trained Stop Smoking Practitioners (Level 2), access to nicotine replacement therapy and vapes, and outcome tracking through Quit Manager, aligned with NICE guidance NG209. The provider will integrate seamlessly with existing Community Mental Health Team workflows and coordinate with broader Bradford stop smoking services. The contract has been awarded to Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 using the Most Suitable Provider process. The provider was selected based on demonstrated experience delivering smoking cessation in secondary mental health services, access to clinical systems (SystmOne), commitment to Quit Manager, and capability to provide leadership and training. The contract runs for 18 months initially with a possible 12-month extension, valued at £200,000 excluding VAT.
