    Brief

South Derbyshire District Council is seeking a contractor to conduct comprehensive structural and ground investigation surveys across South Derbyshire. The surveys aim to identify areas requiring remedial works due to ground instability and subsidence. The region sits within the Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Coalfield (Western Basin), with coalfield areas around Swadlincote, Church Gresley, Woodville, Newhall, and Donisthorpe, plus additional zones affected by historical gypsum mining. The underlying geology consists primarily of Coal Measures and Mercia Mudstone Group (Triassic Clay-Rich Mudstones). Low ground permeability is causing groundwater to accumulate near the surface, and combined with increased rainfall, poor surface water drainage, and silted drainage systems, this is causing structural movement and damage to properties. The contractor will need to assess geohazards associated with coal and gypsum mining, evaluate ground stability conditions, and provide recommendations for necessary structural interventions.
