Train Planning Systems Market Research

South Western Railway (SWR) is conducting a market research initiative to identify Train Planning Systems vendors. The systems must support the creation, editing, integration, and validation of train schedules, rolling stock diagrams, and train crew diagrams. SWR requires intuitive planning interfaces, comprehensive visualization tools, and the ability to manage date-bound timetable datasets across long-term, short-term, and very short-term planning horizons. Systems must securely integrate with Network Rail systems and SWR's operational, rostering, optimization, and business platforms using industry-standard data formats and APIs. SWR is particularly interested in solutions offering automated validation of rolling stock and train crew diagrams, including checks against operational rules, formation requirements, mileage constraints, route and traction knowledge, and depot-specific standards. Suppliers should also provide information on secure data exchange capabilities, auditability, reporting functionalities, and indicative commercial models. This is an information-gathering exercise (RFI) rather than a formal tender, allowing vendors to demonstrate their solutions' capabilities and discuss delivery options.
