Historic Boundary Wall Repair Works at St Mary's Churchyard, Henley-on-Thames

South Oxfordshire District Council is seeking an experienced building contractor to undertake remedial repair works to the Grade II listed eastern boundary wall at St Mary's Closed Churchyard, Henley-on-Thames. The wall, approximately 22 metres long and 4.3 metres tall, is constructed primarily of brick and flint with tile and brick coping. It currently requires attention due to structural issues caused by age, load retention, and tree root penetration. The wall forms the boundary between the churchyard and the Relais Hotel to the east. Contractors with demonstrable experience in heritage works, brick and flint restoration, or relevant heritage accreditation (such as S.P.A.B, IHBC, or NFB Heritage Approved Contractor status) are strongly encouraged to apply. Key works include: partial demolition and reinstatement of brick planter, installation of concrete foundation pads and four buttresses, replacement of loose and blown mortar, brick and flint, removal of medieval wooden beams with brick and flint infill, localised repointing to both sides, and partial demolition and reinstatement of the wall top section from the churchyard side. Most work will be conducted from the Relais Hotel courtyard.
