Refurbishment and Upgrade of Point of Fethaland Lighthouse in Shetland

This project involves the minor refurbishment and upgrade of the Point of Fethaland Lighthouse, located on the northernmost tip of mainland Shetland. The lighthouse and former engine block structures require comprehensive refurbishment work. Key activities include: conducting a full asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey; transporting plant, materials, and site accommodation via helicopter and NLB ship due to the remote location; setting up the work site with appropriate health and safety measures and signage; removing and replacing fence wiring while reusing existing timber posts; fabricating and installing a new aluminium safety fall-back gate connected to the existing aluminium handrail at the lightroom access ladder; and redecorating the lighthouse station. Site access requires use of a 4x4 vehicle along the farm track from Isbister Farm, with the final 1.5km accessible only on foot or by ATV (subject to landowner permission). All work must account for the challenging logistics of this isolated coastal location.
