Sustainability Function in the Civil Service

The Civil Service Board (CSB) has approved key recommendations from the Government Chief Sustainability Officer Group (GCSOG) in April 2025 to expedite the establishment of a new sustainability function within the civil service. This initiative will be supported by a cross-government capability framework and funding models for decarbonization. The acceleration of this program will involve three main workstreams: 1. **Governance**: This involves defining the target operating model for the 'Office Of', CSOG, and the profession, including the functions, roles, responsibilities, and interfaces. 2. **Capability**: This focuses on defining the scope of the profession and advancing the development of the curriculum in line with Government Skill requirements. 3. **Decarbonization of Greening Government Commitments (GGCs)**: This workstream will support the government in meeting its decarbonization commitments, particularly by developing funding models to address existing gaps.
