Debt and Housing Support Services to Prevent Homelessness

This jointly-funded service (through the Housing Support Grant and Children's and Communities Grant) provides practical, hands-on support to individuals and families facing financial instability where debt threatens their housing stability or family wellbeing. A single lead worker delivers needs-led assistance including financial budgeting, debt management, and housing support to help clients prevent homelessness, sustain tenancies, and build long-term financial resilience. The service is referral-based, accessed through the Housing Support Gateway, and is tailored for people who struggle with traditional appointment-based services, including those who are homeless, in temporary accommodation, sofa surfing, or managing complex needs. The provider will offer supported actions where clients face vulnerability, complexity, or executive-function barriers. The service takes a proactive, preventative approach recognizing that housing and financial instability are interconnected. Note: The service does not provide general welfare benefits advice, mandatory reconsiderations, or appeals (these are delivered through other commissioned services), except for Child Disability Living Allowance support under the Families First element.
