Heat Pump Installation and Heating System Upgrade at Fota House, Cork

The Irish Heritage Trust seeks a qualified mechanical engineering contractor to supply, install, and commission a modern, low-carbon heating system at Fota House in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Ireland. This conservation-compliant project replaces an obsolete oil-fired heating system with a renewable bivalent solution designed to reduce carbon emissions while preserving the heritage property's integrity. Key deliverables include: installation of three 50 kW R290 air-to-water heat pumps; integration with existing natural gas condensing boilers for peak-load and backup support; installation of buffer tank (1000L), circulation pumps, mixing valves, magnetic filters, and flow/return headers; complete Building Management System (BMS) integration with real-time monitoring controls; installation of MID-approved energy meters for heat and electricity tracking; and targeted refurbishment of underground radiant coils and critical heating infrastructure sections. The successful contractor must demonstrate expertise in heat pump systems, heritage property compliance, and bivalent heating architecture. This project advances sustainability goals while maintaining operational reliability and regulatory compliance at a protected heritage site.
