Bridge Remediation and Restoration - Salmon Weir Bridge, Galway

Galway City Council is seeking contractors for comprehensive remedial and restoration works on the Salmon Weir Bridge. The project encompasses site preparation, water quality protection, and traffic management, followed by detailed conservation work including vegetation and algae removal, graffiti removal, and specialist cleaning using mild abrasive blasting suitable for protected structures. Masonry repairs and repointing will be performed by historic structure specialists to maintain the bridge's heritage character. Additional work includes repair of concrete scour aprons, restoration of parapet balusters with repainting, replacement of heritage lamp standards and lanterns with associated electrical installation, and new footpath construction. Road pavement works will include planing and inlay, installation of new parapet architectural striplighting with electrical works, and maintenance painting of the existing watermain along the southern elevation. Galway City Council may add additional related contracts over the next 4 years with an estimated total spend of €2.5 million.
