    Brief

The Doe Lea River has been significantly impacted by the industrial history of North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, particularly due to mining activities and the rapid growth of communities to support these industries. Over the past 40 years, considerable efforts have been made to clean up the river, but much work remains. The Don, Dearne & Rother Network catchment partnership has been convening interested parties to discuss their plans and aspirations for the catchment area. These discussions have revealed substantial opportunities for collaborative efforts on a catchment-wide scale to enhance intervention strategies and achieve meaningful improvements to the river environment and the broader catchment area. To support this initiative, the partners have obtained funding from the Water Restoration Fund to create an Environmental Framework for the Doe Lea Valley and to develop an Action Plan for an initial trial phase. The Chesterfield Canal Trust is seeking consultants to assist in delivering this project on behalf of the partners. There may be additional work commissioned in the future to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions and to refine the Action Plan for subsequent phases, contingent on future funding and partner approval. For more details about this phase of the project and the tender process, please refer to the attached Project Brief or contact George Rogers, Development Manager at the Chesterfield Canal Trust, via email at development@chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk.
