    Brief

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is seeking to understand how individuals and households prepare for emergencies, focusing on various population groups, particularly vulnerable individuals and their companion animals. This research will explore the behaviors of the general population, with special attention to: - Older adults - Families with young children - Individuals with chronic health conditions or disabilities - Low-income or unemployed adults - Those with limited literacy or non-English speakers Additionally, the study will consider differences between rural and urban populations, as preparedness needs may vary by location. Key research questions include: 1. Identifying barriers to emergency preparedness for individuals and households, especially among vulnerable groups and regarding companion animals. 2. Understanding factors that enhance preparedness, including effective interventions and their applicability to different population segments. The findings will help inform strategies to improve resilience and preparedness in communities.
