    Brief

The Financial Conduct Authority (FRC) seeks research services to develop and test effective ways of presenting uncertainty and variability in defined contribution (DC) pension illustrations to help savers understand their retirement income projections. The three-phase project will: (1) review academic and professional literature on communicating pension information and savers' behavioural responses; (2) develop alternative communication approaches including wording, narrative styles, visual formats and mock-ups; and (3) conduct empirical testing with DC savers at different career stages. The successful contractor(s) must have strong expertise in behavioural responses to financial information and technical knowledge of investment, inflation, longevity and retirement risks. The FRC is seeking feedback on delivery approaches, research methods, project structure, realistic timelines and any other relevant insights. Interested organisations must register with procurement@frc.org.uk by 5:00pm on 14 September 2026 to receive the questionnaire and further details. All contractors must declare independence and any conflicts of interest.
