Ireland – IT Services Contract Renewal with Microsoft (2026-2031)

EirGrid Group is renewing its IT services contract with Microsoft covering consulting, software development, Internet services, and technical support through March 2031. This contract modification is authorized under EU Utilities Directive 2014/25/EU Article 89, as Microsoft services are essential for continuity of EirGrid's critical IT infrastructure. The renewal is justified because EirGrid's technology environment is heavily integrated with Microsoft platforms including Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows Server, and hybrid cloud services. Replacing Microsoft would require extensive re-engineering of business systems, reconfiguration of third-party vendor solutions, retraining of staff, and significant business disruption due to tight integration across identity management, authentication, networking, security, and applications.
