Community Engagement Project: The Postcard Project

The London Borough of Barnet is seeking an artist to design and implement a community engagement project focused on the borough's early airmail and communication heritage. This project aims to foster conversations about local history, share memories, and reflect on the present. Key details include: - Researching and interpreting archival materials to provide context and educate participants about Barnet's history. - Creating an engaging activity/resource pack with a strong visual identity, to be distributed to libraries, schools, community groups, and cultural organizations across the borough, supported by the council and partners. - Delivering at least 8 inclusive workshops for various communities and age groups, with opportunities to host these at the RAF Museum and other locations. - Incorporating immersive elements to engage residents in unexpected places, such as shopping centers. - Documenting the workshops through photography and testimonials. - Encouraging creative responses from participants. - Facilitating the exchange of postcards between groups. - Co-curating an exhibition of the project in collaboration with the RAF Museum, with potential for further exhibitions across the borough.
