    Brief

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is offering grants to support the construction of new energetics and munitions factories in the UK. This is part of the government's Strategic Defence Review commitment to rebuild domestic production capacity for critical energetic materials, reduce dependence on overseas sources, and strengthen national security. Grant Opportunity: The first funding window is opening imminently and will accept applications for 6 weeks. Successful applicants will advance to due diligence and grant award discussions, with grant letters expected within the current fiscal year. Individual grants are available up to £45 million or 50% of project costs, whichever is smaller. Additional grant windows are planned for Q2 and Q4 2027. Eligibility: Any company can apply with credible proposals for new UK energetic materials production. Prior engagement with MoD or participation in earlier feasibility studies is not required. Assessment Criteria: Proposals must demonstrate economic viability, available financing for remaining costs, technical credibility with detailed delivery plans (up to 15,000 words), military usefulness aligned with MoD priorities, and a robust regulatory and safety strategy. Application Process: Apply through the UK Government Find a Grant portal, which will direct you to the Defence Sourcing Portal application form. Only one grant per project will be awarded across all funding windows.
