Borehole Drilling and Construction Services Framework Agreement

The Mining Remediation Authority is seeking a framework agreement for comprehensive borehole drilling, construction, and rehabilitation services in former mining areas. This work supports efforts to monitor water levels and water chemistry in abandoned coal mines. Services required include: borehole drilling, construction, maintenance, cleaning, rehabilitation, and associated technical works. Work will primarily involve drilling through coal measures, overlying strata, and regionally important aquifers (which may require casing). Drilling targets will focus on specific mining features including voids and collapsed areas, often in complex geological zones with multiple historical workings. Key technical challenges include drilling in areas affected by mining subsidence and ground fracturing, with collapsed and fractured strata both above and within the zone of mining influence. Suppliers must demonstrate expertise in precision drilling with strict accuracy and verticality requirements, as boreholes may target small features at depths exceeding 500 metres. High verticality standards are critical for both accurate underground feature targeting and the boreholes' operational purposes, including future survey work, sampling, and pumping operations.
