    Brief

Defra is seeking qualified suppliers to manage the ecological and environmental operations of Rhydymwyn Valley, a 35.5-hectare site near Mold, Flintshire. This site comprises diverse habitats including broadleaf woodland, wetlands, grassland, traditional orchard, and the River Alyn, alongside historic structures and protected monuments. The successful contractor will be responsible for habitat management and maintenance, species monitoring and ecological surveys (including protected species such as Greater Crested Newts, bats, birds, reptiles, and butterflies), invasive species control, and visitor infrastructure maintenance. The role requires close collaboration with Defra, statutory bodies, local stakeholders, specialist societies, and volunteers. Key deliverables include four annual written reports, monthly management meetings, comprehensive record-keeping, and performance monitoring against Key Performance Indicators. The contract will run for an initial three-year term with potential for two additional one-year extensions based on performance. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in multi-habitat ecological management, species monitoring, health and safety compliance, and community engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for environmental consultancies and ecological management firms seeking a substantial, long-term contract with a government client.
