    Brief

    The Local Government Association (LGA) is seeking an experienced Children's Improvement Adviser to support councils and leaders across the East Midlands region from November 2026 to March 2027 (with option to extend for one year). You must have recent experience as a statutory Director of Children's Services. In this role, you will build relationships with regional councils and leaders to understand their needs in children's services and social care, provide strategic support and constructive challenge, work with regional improvement alliances, identify councils at risk, commission additional expertise, and share best practice. You will work collaboratively with the LGA's SEND and corporate leadership advisers to deliver a coordinated support programme. The position is offered at a fixed daily rate of £700 (excluding VAT) for up to 60 days per year (pro rata), with a maximum annual value of £42,000 excluding VAT. Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed in line with LGA policies. Bidders should apply via the LGA procurement platform.
