Brief

This project is part of the Wales Metal Mine Programme, aimed at reducing river pollution and restoring ecosystems damaged by historic metal mining operations. The work focuses on the Esgair Ffriath mine site near Tal-y-Bont, Ceredigion, and involves constructing scour protection measures, modifying site drainage systems, and installing new fencing to prevent metal-rich sediment from contaminating local watercourses (Nant Du and Afon Lluestgota), which feed into the Nant-y-Moch Reservoir and River Rheidol. The site is protected as a Mine Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Regionally Important Geodiversity Site (RIGS) due to its rare metallophyte lichens, ferns, and copperwort liverwort, as well as significant archaeological heritage features from historic mining. All works will be conducted with environmental protections and in accordance with an Environmental Action Plan to preserve the site's ecological and cultural value. Suppliers should have experience in environmental restoration, water management infrastructure, ecological protection, and heritage site management.
