    Brief

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the UK's regulator of auditors, accountants and actuaries, is seeking an external research provider to conduct a benchmarking study comparing how artificial intelligence models perform when processing corporate financial disclosures in different formats: XBRL (structured data), PDF, and HTML. The study aims to evaluate AI performance across numerical information, accounting standard-related disclosures, narrative information, and overall information quality and consistency. The research provider will design a robust methodology, select appropriate AI models and testing approaches, and deliver evidence-based findings that will inform the FRC's digital reporting agenda and help stakeholders understand the advantages and limitations of structured data in AI-driven environments. This commissioned research addresses a critical evidence gap and will support the FRC, financial preparers, users, regulators, and technology providers in improving corporate reporting quality and usability.
