Design, Construction and Commissioning of Rail Gantry for District Heating Pipework

Nottingham City Council is seeking a Network Rail approved contractor to design, construct, and commission a new rail gantry and associated high-pressure steam pipework. The project involves: RIBA Stage 4 design; construction of a new rail gantry crossing the railway east of Nottingham Station; commissioning of pipework and electrical connections; and demolition of the existing gantry. The work is part of relocating an existing steam pipe gantry to accommodate a proposed development north of the railway. The gantry carries high-pressure steam from Eastcroft Incinerator to Nottingham City Council's London Road Heat Station, which supplies heating and hot water to approximately 5,000 households and commercial customers. Planning permission is currently being sought, with RIBA Stage 3 design completed. The contractor or consortium member must be Network Rail approved and demonstrate experience in constructing and commissioning high-pressure steam systems and associated electrical infrastructure. Commissioning is scheduled for July 2027 during the summer railway shutdown. This is a design and build contract requiring expertise in both structural engineering and specialist pipework installation.
