    Brief

The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) is seeking an advanced automated haematology analysis system to support blood donor assessment, blood component quality monitoring, and transfusion medicine research. The system must provide automated full blood count (FBC) analysis, 5-part white cell differential capability, and integrated reticulocyte analysis. Key requirements include: fluorescence platelet counting with high accuracy at low platelet concentrations, reticulated platelet measurement, low-level white cell enumeration for blood component quality monitoring, and blood component testing capabilities without separate instrumentation. The analyser should support emerging donor health assessment methodologies including FlowScore calculation and reticulated haemoglobin analysis for early iron deficiency detection. Suppliers must demonstrate compliance with medical device regulations, participation in robust External Quality Assessment (EQA/EQAS) programmes with meaningful peer group benchmarking, mature quality management systems, and reliable service and maintenance arrangements to minimise downtime. Evidence of successful implementation within blood services, blood centres, or comparable blood establishments is required. Interested parties should email nwssp.procurementcataloguepathology@wales.nhs.uk with details of their analyser by Tuesday 8th August 2026.
