The NHS seeks a supplier to establish and operate a national registry for robotically assisted surgery across England, capturing prospective data on patient outcomes and procedure quality. The initial 3-year contract is valued at £1,083,600 excluding VAT (£1,300,320 including VAT), with potential extension for up to 24 months and aspirational enhancements bringing the ceiling value to £8,640,646.40 excluding VAT (£10,800,808 including VAT). The registry must track short- and long-term surgical results, capture key quality metrics aligned with NICE Early Evaluation Assessment recommendations for orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, standardise practice across hospitals, and identify variations in outcomes. The supplier will work with NICE, MHRA, NHSE, and NETIS to ensure the registry evolves with robotic surgery uptake and addresses health inequities. Critical deliverables include: developing a prospective data collection system operational by 2029; designing a self-sustaining funding model to transition from public to independent funding by year 4; ensuring data interoperability with existing registries; maintaining robust governance with HQIP and NHSE as permanent partners; enabling appropriate data sharing with manufacturers for product improvement and safety; and developing analytics and reporting tools tailored to multiple stakeholders. The technical solution must be portable, with all intellectual property rights transferable to future providers. The registry will support research, inform clinical guidelines and commissioning decisions, and provide real-time outcome comparisons across healthcare providers.
