Chimney Repair and Maintenance Works

This is an essential maintenance project to repair and maintain the chimneys on the Boiler House. The work has been identified through annual condition surveys and is required to commence by 10 August, with an estimated completion time of 20 days. The scope of work includes: repairing cracked mortar and brickwork, replacing weathered brick facings, securing insecure cowlings, and replacing corroded metal bands. These remedial works are critical to maintain the chimneys in a safe condition and prevent further deterioration. There is a significant Health & Safety requirement for this work, as the areas beneath the chimneys are busy, occupied spaces used by staff, students, and visitors. Without these repairs, there is a risk of falling material causing injury. By undertaking these repairs, the University will mitigate safety risks and ensure the continued safe operation of the surrounding areas. Suppliers should be experienced in high-level chimney repair, working at height, and managing work in occupied environments with appropriate safety protocols.
