HVDC Interconnector Construction Contracts - Ireland and Wales Electricity Link

The MaresConnect Project seeks contractors for construction of a 750 MW, 320 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electricity interconnector connecting Denbighshire, Wales and North County Dublin, Ireland. The project will use approximately 240 km of subsea and underground cables with Voltage Source Converter (VSC) technology in a Symmetrical Monopole configuration to enable bi-directional electricity transmission between the Irish and GB grids. The procurement is divided into four separate Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) turnkey contracts: Lot 1A covers two HVDC Converter Stations; Lot 1B covers one Irish 400kV AC Tail Substation; Lot 2A covers HVDC subsea and underground cable systems plus HVAC underground cables in Wales; and Lot 2B covers HVAC cable supply and installation in Ireland. All contracts will use amended FIDIC Silver Book conditions. The project aims to improve electricity supply security, market integration, and renewable energy utilization between Ireland and Great Britain. MaresConnect Limited, a joint venture between Foresight Group Holdings Ltd and Etchea Energy Nominees Ltd, has completed Preliminary Market Engagement and encourages collaboration between equipment manufacturers and construction contractors to prepare for the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire phase.
