Aggregate Quarrying Services - North District

Forestry England seeks qualified suppliers to manage quarrying operations across hard rock quarries in Northumberland, England. This framework covers extraction and processing of aggregate materials used in forest road construction and maintenance to support timber harvesting operations. The work involves 2-5 quarrying sites annually, with typical extraction periods of a few weeks per year. Materials are extracted in quantities of 20,000-35,000 tonnes per blast and either stockpiled on-site or at designated locations for future use. This opportunity is divided into two lots: Lot 1 - Drilling and Blasting: Suppliers must conduct all drilling and blasting operations in compliance with the Quarries Regulations 1999 and Explosives Regulations 2014. Suppliers must provide qualified personnel (Explosives Supervisor, Shotfirer, Driller, Blast Designer, Face Profiler, and Trainees), manage explosives handling and transportation, perform all required survey work, and supply all necessary plant, equipment, fuels, and accessories. Lot 2 - Extraction, Quarry Development and Crushing: Suppliers must perform all extraction and processing operations including removal of stockpiled and blast materials, raw material excavation, crushing and screening, quarry maintenance, road upkeep, material loading, haulage to forest locations, daily regulatory inspections, overburden management, and site restoration. A named supervisor will be appointed as deputy quarry manager. Both lots require compliance with Health and Safety requirements and the appointment of suitably qualified, competent personnel. Suppliers should demonstrate experience in large-scale aggregate extraction, explosives management, and quarry operations.
