    Brief

The UK Government is awarding a direct contract to Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) to provide essential support services to the Mission Innovation (MI) Secretariat during its transition from UK Government hosting to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This £250,000 contract (excluding VAT) runs from now until June 2027, with an optional one-year extension to June 2028. ESC has successfully supported the MI Secretariat since 2022 and possesses critical expertise needed to maintain continuity during this transitional period. The contract will fund two specialist leads, a project manager, and administrative support to deliver: event coordination and programme management for the MI Annual Gathering and Ministerial meetings; diplomatic engagement with international governments; leadership of the Artificial Intelligence workstream; coordination and technical advice to MI Missions; data analysis of international energy innovation; and enhanced secretariat capability to support the IEA transition. This direct award is necessary to retain institutional knowledge and expertise built over the past four years. Following the initial contract period, the UK intends to run a competitive procurement for an organisation to deliver MI Secretariat services through 2030, as the UK has committed to providing resources for the core secretariat team through the end of Mission Innovation 2.0.
