    DESNZ is seeking a research contractor for a four-year Biomass Research Programme to advance understanding of biomass and bioenergy's role in climate change mitigation, energy security, and net zero delivery. The programme encompasses seven work packages covering programme management, lifecycle analysis, feedstock availability, industrial applications, sustainability frameworks, bioeconomy analysis, and emerging evidence needs. Key research areas include greenhouse gas emissions, biomass availability across sectors, sustainability criteria, environmental co-benefits and trade-offs (biodiversity, air and water quality), economic modelling, and bioeconomy growth potential. Required expertise includes geospatial modelling, spatial data analysis, climate scenario modelling, scientific research and analysis, policy development, economic research, and strong project management. Deliverables include research reports, policy briefings, updated models (such as the UK & Global Bioenergy Resource Model), seminars and workshops, and datasets to inform policy decisions. A supplier event will be held on 13 January 2026 via MS Teams featuring a DESNZ presentation and Q&A session.
