    Brief

The METIUS programme is a £14.5 million UK infrastructure investment launched on 1 October 2025 for five years. It uses artificial intelligence to accelerate and improve evidence synthesis, making research findings more accessible and relevant for policymakers addressing urgent challenges. Co-funded by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), METIUS forms part of UKRI's Creating Opportunities and Improving Outcomes strategic theme. The programme evaluation will measure how effectively policymakers use synthesised evidence in policy development, assess the benefits for evidence-informed public policy in the UK and internationally, and provide insights for designing future research investments.
