    Brief

The School of Physical, Chemical and Environmental Sciences (PACES) is seeking to procure a modern uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) to enhance teaching, research and innovation in marine science, hydrographic surveying and marine robotics. The platform will provide students with hands-on experience of autonomous survey technology that aligns with current industry practice, improving graduate employability and strengthening university-industry partnerships. Key requirements include: person-portable and modular construction fitting within a standard SUV or pickup vehicle; minimum seven-hour operational endurance on a single battery charge with hot-swappable batteries preferred; capability for both remote shore-based operation and pre-programmed autonomous navigation with real-time parameter editing; compatibility with the University's existing NORBIT multibeam sonar system; overall length under 2.5 metres for regulatory compliance under MGN 702(M) Amendment 1; integrated collision avoidance and situational awareness capabilities; zero direct emissions and minimal underwater/airborne noise; ability to readily accommodate additional sensors including autocast sound-velocity profiler winch and other equipment. The USV will enable practical teaching and research across diverse environments including coastal waters, ports, harbours, estuaries, inland waters and sheltered bays, while improving accessibility by eliminating the need for crewed survey vessels and specialist lifting equipment.
