Supply of Shoe Gear and Beams for London Underground S Stock

This is a contract award notice for the supply of Shoe Gear and Beams for the London Underground S Stock rolling stock. These components are critical safety systems that transfer traction current from the conductor rail to trains and secure safety-critical materials to bogie frames while providing electrical isolation. The S Stock cannot operate without these parts. An 8 working day standstill period applies under the Procurement Act 2023 before the contract can be entered into. Spend is not committed upfront; consumables will be procured based on operational requirements. This contract has been awarded directly to Schunk Carbon Technology Limited UK under Procurement Act 2023 Section 41.6, Schedule 5, Paragraph 7. The direct award is justified because these Shoe Gear and Beams are bespoke components specifically designed for S Stock. Switching suppliers would result in incompatible parts that would create disproportionate technical difficulties in operation and maintenance. Schunk Carbon Technology Limited UK is the only supplier capable of ensuring full compatibility and continuity of service for this critical rolling stock system.
