Marine Research Vessel Maintenance and Support Services Framework

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is seeking suppliers to support the refit, maintenance, equipment and ongoing operations of its research vessels, including RRS James Cook and RRS Discovery, through an open framework lasting up to eight years. The framework covers six main service areas: 1. Refit and Docking Services: Hull, structural and coating work, propulsion and steering repairs, tailshaft and rudder maintenance, and survey-identified repairs. Both wet berth and dry dock capabilities needed. 2. General Marine Engineering: Mechanical and electrical engineering, fabrication, pipework, hydraulics, HVAC, cabling, interior works, maintenance and defect rectification in the UK and overseas. 3. Critical Vessel Systems Support: Propulsion, navigation, communications, electrical, safety and control systems - including inspection, overhaul, upgrade and certification from original equipment manufacturers and approved partners. 4. Marine Research Systems: Supply and installation of oceanographic equipment including echo sounders, environmental sensors, water sampling systems and deck handling equipment, plus data infrastructure support. 5. Technical and Professional Services: Naval architecture, marine surveying, project management, class liaison and specialist engineering consultancy. 6. Maritime Hardware Supply: Equipment, spares, components and consumables including OEM and approved equivalent parts. Decarbonisation and environmental retrofit capabilities are of particular interest. The framework will be divided into lots, with suppliers able to apply for one or more. Work will be ordered by call-off contract on a task-by-task basis covering both planned and unplanned requirements at UK and overseas locations. The estimated total framework value is £65-£100 million (excluding VAT) over its full duration. NOC will conduct preliminary market engagement before publishing the formal tender notice.
