Kingsway Tunnel Dado Panel Refurbishment and Replacement

The contracting authority is seeking a qualified contractor to refurbish and/or replace the dado panel system in the Kingsway Tunnel, a critical transport infrastructure asset. The existing panels form part of the tunnel lining and safety system and require upgrade to meet current safety standards and operational requirements. Key responsibilities include: • Inspecting existing panels, fixings, and supporting structures to assess deterioration and required work • Developing design solutions that meet UK and EU tunnel safety standards, with appropriate fire and impact resistance • Safely removing existing panels and installing new or refurbished panels with all associated fixings and supports • Coordinating with tunnel systems including drainage, ventilation, lighting, and emergency systems • Planning and managing traffic and operations to minimise disruption through phased delivery and strategic scheduling • Implementing health, safety, and environmental management procedures for confined space and live highway working • Testing, inspecting, and commissioning installed systems before handover This is a specialist project requiring proven experience in tunnel refurbishment, highway infrastructure, and panel system installation. Works will be delivered in a constrained operational environment with careful planning and stakeholder coordination to ensure safety, resilience, and operational efficiency.
