Abbey Leisure Complex Bowling Pavilion and Sports Field Access Improvements

Cambridge City Council is seeking qualified contractors to design and build a new bowling pavilion at Abbey Leisure Complex in Cambridge, along with comprehensive access improvements to sports pitches. Works include grass guard surfacing construction, bituminous footway installation, kerbing, fencing, signage, gates, and cattlegrids. The contractor must design the grass guard sub-base, conduct ground condition surveys via trial holes, and ensure proper drainage to prevent flooding. The site is located in northeast Cambridge at the entrance to sports pitches, a cycle track, and a busy public footpath and cycleway. The contractor must minimize disruption to ongoing site access and maintenance vehicle traffic during construction. Access is constrained by a narrow 3.0m bridge with a 30-tonne weight limit, residential streets with on-street parking, and narrow roads within the leisure complex. The contractor must submit a detailed site compound plan including size, facilities, plant, materials delivery, and parking arrangements, with measures to minimize vehicle numbers on site.
