Economic Analysis of Blood Culture Testing Improvements in England

This project aims to develop and refine an economic model using real-world English data to evaluate the clinical and financial benefits of optimizing blood culture testing practices. The work will support efforts to detect infections more effectively and reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) while informing national clinical guidance. Key deliverables include: updating the model with English healthcare data; validating assumptions with clinical experts; incorporating additional operational details to capture costs and benefits more accurately; conducting supplementary analyses; creating a user-friendly tool for hospitals to input local data and generate trust-specific business cases; and publishing peer-reviewed findings. This evidence-based analysis will help healthcare organizations implement changes to blood culture pathways that improve patient outcomes for sepsis cases.
