    Brief

The European seabass fishery requires updated management practices. This research opportunity addresses two critical knowledge gaps identified in the Bass Fisheries Management Plan: (1) determining optimal timing for fishing closed seasons during spawning periods, and (2) understanding how different nursery areas (estuaries) contribute to adult seabass populations and commercial fisheries. The Bass Management Group is implementing the Fisheries Management Plan and needs scientific evidence to support policy decisions on seasonal closures and nursery area protection. Researchers will investigate seabass spawning ecology and track connectivity between juvenile nursery habitats and adult stocks to provide data-driven recommendations for sustainable fisheries management.
