Market Engagement for UK Nature-Based Carbon Removal Credits

The Met Office is conducting a second Preliminary Market Engagement (PME) exercise to gather feedback on their planned procurement of verified UK nature-based carbon removal credits. The Met Office intends to purchase approximately £500,000 of credits in FY 2026/27, with retirement planned for FY 2030/31 and some credits potentially retired earlier for offsetting business travel. This engagement seeks to inform the market of the revised procurement approach, confirm understanding of key terminology, gather feedback on tender documentation questions, and assess current supplier capability and interest. The feedback will support the development of the procurement strategy and associated documentation. This is a preliminary market engagement exercise only and does not constitute a commitment to proceed with a future procurement, nor does it offer process exemptions or preferential treatment.
