Masonry Repairs and Sediment Removal at Cammock Bridge

The Council is seeking a contractor to carry out masonry repairs and sediment removal works at Cammock Bridge on Brisco Road (C1041), located south of Carlisle (Grid Reference: 341541E/552725N). The bridge crosses Cammock Beck. Project Objectives: • Complete masonry repairs throughout the entire bridge structure • Remove accumulated sediment from the bridge invert These works are essential to preserve the bridge's structural integrity and ensure proper water flow. Scope of Works: The contractor must undertake comprehensive masonry repairs including: • Replace all spalled, missing, or severely deteriorated stones with new stone matching the existing type, colour, texture, size and finish as closely as possible • Repoint all loose, open, or defective joints using mortar mixed at 1:1:6 (Cement: NHL3.5: Sand) • Use well-graded sharp sand for mortar, ensuring colour, texture and appearance match surrounding stonework • Apply Rockbond underwater repair mortar (or accepted equivalent) for all below-water elements; alternatives require prior approval • Carry out all works with care to preserve the character and structural integrity of the historic bridge This is a specialist stonework contract requiring experience in heritage bridge repair and underwater construction techniques.
