Hoy High Lighthouse Redecoration and Maintenance Project

Location and Access: Hoy High Lighthouse is situated on the north-east corner of Graemesay, Orkney, Scotland (coordinates: 58°56.137 N 003°16.399 W). The site is accessible by road, with Graemesay reached by ferry from Stromness. Contractors should note that some ferry services are passenger-only, requiring careful logistics planning. Facility Overview: This traditional 34-meter-high lighthouse tower was constructed in 1851 by renowned engineer Alan Stevenson. The main structure features a quarterdeck with integral welfare, battery, and control rooms. An adjacent garage block houses the Northern Lighthouse Board utility vehicle used for accessing Hoy Low lighthouse. Scope of Works: The project includes comprehensive external and internal redecoration, replacement of any broken or cracked glazing panes in the lightroom, investigation and repointing of all masonry joints, and repair or replacement of minor defects as identified during the works.
