Brief

Thames Water is seeking a supplier to provide Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engines and comprehensive support services across its wastewater treatment sites. This procurement covers the supply, installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of CHP units designed to maximize energy recovery from biogas, minimize flaring, and reduce carbon emissions. The scope includes: replacement of approximately 10-16 end-of-life engines (100kW-1500kW output) during AMP 8, with additional units required for AMP 9; supply of ancillary components; provision of spare parts inventory; planned and reactive maintenance services; and technical support throughout the asset lifecycle. Thames Water currently operates 47 CHP engines across 24 sites, many approaching the end of their typical 20-year lifespan. The successful supplier will be expected to promote standardization across the estate, ensure compliance with evolving environmental regulations (including emissions standards), support innovation in engine technology, and deliver cost-effective solutions leveraging volume-based incentives. A single-source supplier is preferred to improve serviceability and reduce complexity, though multiple awards may be considered if offering better value. Pre-Qualification Stage (PSQ) specifications and detailed technical requirements will be provided to shortlisted suppliers.
