    Brief

The UK Space Agency is seeking stakeholder input to understand barriers and opportunities in the in-orbit manufacturing and research and development of pharmaceuticals. This Request for Information (RFI) follows collaborative work with regulators including the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and the Regulatory Innovation Office to establish regulatory clarity for space-based pharmaceutical manufacturing. The UK Space Agency wants to hear from space biotech companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, academic institutions, investors, and healthcare end-users about: (1) existing and emerging barriers to commercialising in-orbit pharmaceutical manufacturing or research; (2) effective interventions and additional support needed to overcome these barriers; and (3) how government can best facilitate this sector's growth, including lessons from international comparators. Responses will inform future non-financial support, commercialisation opportunities, and potential policy interventions, though this RFI is not directly linked to current funding. Submissions are welcome from all interested stakeholders and will not affect eligibility for future UK Space Agency funding opportunities. The deadline for responses is 17:00 BST on 7 September 2026. Contact UKSA.commercial@dsit.gov.uk for questions or extensions.
