PFAS Management Research for GB Rail Industry

RSSB seeks a research supplier to develop comprehensive guidance on managing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) across Great Britain's rail sector. The project will identify gaps in current engineering, safety, assurance, materials disclosure, and waste management processes; create a proportionate framework for assessing PFAS emissions and waste impacts; and produce practical guidance for managing PFAS-related changes throughout the railway asset lifecycle. The research will include three case studies, particularly focusing on transitioning from aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) to fluorine-free alternatives, and will enable consistent, risk-informed decision-making across asset owners, operators, manufacturers, maintainers, and supply chain partners.
