Peatland Restoration: Grip and Drainage Blocking at Gun Moor

This project involves the restoration of Gun Moor, an 81-hectare upland habitat site located on the western edge of the Peak District National Park. Funded through a Wildlife Rich Habitat grant from DEFRA, the initiative aims to restore degraded peatland and support nature recovery in the region. The work focuses on blocking grip and surface drainage channels across areas of deep peat to re-wet the moorland and restore natural water cycles. The project will install approximately 448 peat and stone interventions designed to slow water drainage and raise water tables. This is a restoration and environmental management project seeking suppliers with expertise in peatland restoration, drainage management, and upland habitat conservation work. Key activities include survey work, planning and design, installation of blocking structures, and environmental monitoring.
