Small Autonomous Underwater Vehicle with Biogeochemical Sensors

Cefas is seeking a small autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) equipped with biogeochemical sensors to enhance water quality monitoring programs. The vehicle must weigh no more than 20 kg, be deployable by a single person from shore or small vessels, and operate at depths up to 250 m. It must include temperature, conductivity, oxygen concentration, chlorophyll-a fluorescence, and optical backscatter sensors, with optional fDOM and photosynthetically active radiation capabilities. The AUV must maintain fixed depths, execute saw-tooth transect missions in currents up to 2 knots, and provide at least 5 hours of endurance. Additional requirements include graphical mission planning software, surface communications (VHF or Iridium), high-visibility markings, abort-mission procedures, and easy data download capability. The system must use Windows 11-compatible software with one-time licensing (not subscription-based), operate without internet connectivity, and integrate with RBR Legato and Tridente instruments where possible. Suppliers must ensure 12-month minimum warranty, provide training and documentation, offer rechargeable batteries and independently replaceable sensors, include lifetime software updates, and guarantee delivery to Cefas Lowestoft Laboratory by 15 March 2027. All pricing must be DDP inclusive. Tenderers must comply with UK Data Protection Act 2018, security vetting requirements, and cyber security standards as specified.
