Community Engagement and Heritage Skills Development at Mountsandel Site

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is seeking a qualified organization or individual to develop and deliver a comprehensive community engagement program at the Mountsandel archaeological site in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. This PEACEPLUS-funded initiative aims to increase awareness of this historically significant Mesolithic site and promote cross-community understanding through educational activities, heritage skills training, and environmental programs. The contractor will recruit 430 participants from diverse community backgrounds and deliver at least 4 hours of meaningful cross-community engagement per participant. Key deliverables include: accredited training for local walking guides with heritage interpretation and conflict-sensitive storytelling skills; biodiversity volunteer programs; storytelling and heritage skills development (including recorded outputs); environmental heritage workshops featuring expert speakers; and a concluding outdoor event with guided walks showcasing project outcomes. The program must address identity, migration, cultural expression, shared spaces, and peace and reconciliation themes while positioning Mountsandel as a safe, inclusive venue for learning about local history from the Mesolithic period through to modern day. All activities must be completed by May 2028.
