Dike Improvement Project between Cuijk and Ravenstein

This project involves enhancing the primary flood defense between Cuijk and Ravenstein, specifically along dike section 36-2 in the Land van Heusden de Maaskant 2 area, located on the southern bank of the Maas River. The work will extend from the Mook railway bridge to just past the A50 bridge near Ravenstein, connecting the Cuijk-Ravenstein project to the Meandering Maas project. The Cuijk-Ravenstein dike section is identified as one of the most urgent areas for reinforcement under the Flood Protection Program. The need for this project arises because the dike on the Brabant side of this river section does not meet the safety standards established since January 1, 2017. In the event of a breach, the flood area extends to 's-Hertogenbosch, with a risk standard of 1:10,000. Assessments by the Water Safety Department indicate significant issues with height, stability, and piping along large portions of the Cuijk-Ravenstein section. Approximately 21 kilometers of dike require improvement. Key communities along this section include Grave, which has part of its flood defense made up of historic fortress walls that were reinforced in the late 20th century for flood protection. Other residential areas along the dike include Overlangel and Neerloon. The majority of the improvement work will involve earth dikes, potentially with additional structures for stability and/or to prevent piping. The goal of this tender is to establish a construction team agreement with the selected bidder, with the possibility of further project realization through one or more UAV-gc contracts. Phase 1 of this tender is a selective phase aimed at selecting three candidates to proceed to Phase 2, which involves dialogue and bidding.
