    Brief

The University Hospital Magdeburg A.ö.R. (referred to as 'AG' or 'UKMD') is primarily equipped with connected patient monitoring technology of the 'IntelliVue' type from Philips. Currently, six intensive care units, three intermediate care units, the emergency department, dialysis, the children's clinic, and various general wards utilize this patient monitoring technology. Additionally, a database server from Philips has been installed at the hospital, connecting the existing Philips monitoring systems. UKMD intends to upgrade its patient monitoring equipment to the latest technology. This involves partially renewing the existing 'IntelliVue X2' patient monitors from Philips and procuring the more advanced 'IntelliVue X3' devices. The reason for this upgrade is that the currently used 'IntelliVue X2' devices will reach their 'End of Service Life' status by the end of 2025. Furthermore, the existing IntelliVue X2 monitors, due to their ten years of usage, incur high maintenance costs. Market observation conducted by UKMD and comparisons with other potential suppliers have shown that only the 'IntelliVue X3' product from Philips fully meets UKMD's requirements. The entire patient monitoring infrastructure at UKMD is almost entirely based on Philips components, ensuring seamless compatibility between devices and maximizing the functionality of the Philips system. Since the monitoring system is physically separated and set up as a support network, only Philips provides the necessary expertise to support and further develop this structure. Patient monitoring data is stored on specialized Philips servers that use tailored applications and databases. The integration of devices or information centers from other manufacturers is technically impossible, as the systems rely on proprietary interfaces and transmission protocols that only Philips fully controls. This ensures the continuous and secure storage and use of patient data through a low-interface infrastructure. Only Philips monitors can communicate with the existing Philips central systems, and the necessary CE compliance is only achieved through these communication channels.
