Environmental Remediation Contract for Cheminova Site

Region Midtjylland is seeking a main contractor for the remediation of contamination at the former Cheminova factory site located at Harboøre Tange. The project involves the installation of a sheet pile barrier to prevent the spread of pollutants, which include pesticides and mercury, that have contaminated the soil and groundwater since the factory's operation from 1953 to 1961. The barrier will be installed to a depth of -12 meters into a clay layer to effectively block any leakage from the upper sandy layers. Additionally, cathodic protection will be established to ensure the long-term functionality of the barrier. The current factory, operated by FMC, is located just north of the old site and is actively pumping contaminated groundwater to prevent further pollution. While the installation of the barrier will reduce the need for groundwater pumping, FMC will still need to continue this process at a reduced level. The contractor must adhere to specific safety and environmental standards due to the high level of contamination on the site.
