    Brief

The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is launching a competitive procurement to fund research and development projects that will mature In-Orbit Manufacturing (IOM) payload concepts for Earth applications. This opportunity follows a market engagement exercise and aims to gather technical, commercial, cost and delivery evidence to support future in-orbit demonstration activities and inform business case development. The work focuses on applied research to develop technical knowledge rather than commercial industrialisation. Key details: Total funding available is £1,400,000 (excluding VAT) across multiple projects, with a minimum of two contracts expected to be awarded at up to £700,000 per contract. Projects are anticipated to start in January 2027 with a duration of up to 6 months. The competition is planned to launch on or around 23 October 2026, with suppliers having approximately four weeks to submit proposals. Lead organisations may subcontract or collaborate with other organisations. This procurement is exempted under the Procurement Act 2023 and will be delivered through Innovate UK Contracts for Innovation. Important note: Appointment under this competition does not commit UKSA to fund or proceed with any subsequent demonstration mission or further payload maturation activities, which would require separate consideration and approval.
