Research and Development Services for Climate Reanalysis

The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is seeking tenders for a project aimed at enhancing the treatment of the stratosphere in climate reanalyses. This project involves developing improvements in the ECMWF Integrated Forecasting System (IFS) and conducting experiments that incorporate observations of upper atmospheric temperature and humidity. The goal is to evaluate the accuracy of ERA6 temperature and humidity data in the upper atmosphere shortly after its production and to develop methods for correcting model biases in the stratosphere for future reanalyses, using data from the modern era. To validate these improvements, high-quality in-situ observation data will be collected. ECMWF plans to award a single Framework Agreement for a maximum duration of 30 months, which will be executed through a Service Contract expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.
